She spoke like a broken record
stut.ter.ing past the syllables
falling off her tongue
Trying to explain..
He spilled silk rapture
forth from his soul
holding promises like the daisies
he'd tucked behind her ears
She kicked the pebbles from underneath her feet
as the lies she used to build her confidence
fell through like a weak cloud
"You're so goddamn beautiful..." and
"Somewhere there's a guy thinking about your smile"
But she hadn't wanted a man to think about her
not like that.. not anymore
When for so long, she was so ugly
And he'd told her time and time again
that she needed to learn to accept a compliment
Maybe it hadn't occurred to them
but she didn't feel beautiful
unless she was in his arms and he was
whispering in her ear
while she was falling asleep
{instead of falling apart}
Even in a crowd, she felt singled out
exposed
and she clung to his hand
like the cross she used to turn over
and over in her fingers.
She slipped the truth between the sheets
praying for a miracle
from a god that didn't exist
"teach me how to love him..
like he deserves to be loved
teach me how to..
love without the fear"
