Flipping through the pictures in her mind
She saw a picture of her family
and wrote HATE in big block letters
Across the heart of the photograph…
Then she sighed
twirling the d.red marker between her fingers
She found a picture of a sunrise
and jotted down the first thing to come to mind:
A. M.
and the sun’s rays lightened the sky where she wrote
She came across a magazine art.icle
And the picture of a blue moon
and the craters were deep and gray
and those extra days always add up to something special
only she was the kind of special everyone hated.
She wrote the word “Full” in an arc shape
because that summed up the picture in one word.
and she always loved to cheat pictures out of the other
nine hundred, ninety nine words
they deserved
That was the day she cried a lot
and her face was red in embarrassment…
though there was no one to see the tears
and she found a picture of you
She always loved your soft features
and she wrote
“eye.” with the utmost clarity
Cursive blood scribbled across your cheekbones
Now… faced with the perfect selection
for her photo collage of her life,
she couldn’t ignore her message to herself
eye.
A.M.
HATE
full.
