She’s in pain and she’s nervous
--Nervous as hell--
But she needs to wait it out
[Wait until her father stops yelling
Until her mother goes to bed]
((Because she needs to change the bandages))
She needs to cry it out
So she can understand what’s wrong
And here’s what she figures:
She does as she’s told
[Dumb bitch of a girl]
She needs to grow a spine
And stick up for herself
She needs to stop breaking her back
To appease her elders
And she needs to learn
To have some respect for herself
There’s a million life lessons
Hidden in the wrinkles of her blue jeans
And if she wants to grow up
She’ll have to learn them soon
And she really hates this part :
She’ll need to learn
That she can’t take the blame for everything
That she can’t apologize for every inconvenience
And she’ll have to face her fears
Of the world
[all those broken, jagged fears]
They were never quite explained to her
Except for what she could remember
From her nightmares
(but even those seemed cryptic)
And she needs to learn to love herself
In case there’s a day
Where no one else does.
