Funeral Pyre

Time to put you to bed
Drown the dream in pure vodka
Before it eats me alive
Let go
I know
Is the only way to go
Smoke it away
The ways we could play
Tomorrow has to be another day
Turn over this leaf
Look underneath
For a new way to be
A way free
Of this wish
For something more
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Death to this lust
Is long overdue

Know now that you’re
Never gonna knock at my door
Why did take me so long
To see it was all wrong
For the curtain to fall
From my rose tinted eyes
This poem is your funeral pyre
Each word a flame
Under your skin
And the dreams of within
Will no longer live in my mind
Use this epitaph to grind
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Death to this lust
Is long overdue

I see now that you
Never wanted me
Your kisses false promises
This fool fell for
But not anymore
A Georgie Peorgie for sure
My fickle heart believed
Stupidity grieved
Alone in her bed
For too many damn days
And you knew
But didn’t come through
You never cared
You never dared
Take this chance
To dance my dance
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Death to this lust
Is long overdue

Well fuck you and goodbye
I am worth so much more
Than you will ever know
We could have had a wild ride
But you had to hide
Hold onto your bitterness snide
Stay on your cloud boy
Next time don’t be so coy
When a woman offers her heart
True love is hard to find
Keep this in mind
As you travel your road
Goodbye false friend
I guess this is the end
I will no longer pretend
That you are anything more
Than what you always were
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Death to this lust
Is long overdue

Thanks - i really enjoyed writing this one, if only it was that simple though, that a poem could set me free from the yearn for someone that i can't have, did help though :) Px
