I look into your guardful eyes
Protecting yourself inside
And your sometimes sharp words
Are from years of experience;

Naive love ad-libs
Taking just to give

Unsurmountable heart ache,
You gave and now you take

Learning to hold your heart well,
Learning to guard your heart well,
Mirrors of painful experiences
Often reflect onto you outside--

Bright enough for those
Curious enough to take a look

Your heart is sometimes tainted
Because naturally, as you learn to heal and grow,
Your skins gets just a little tougher--
A little thicker- each time

My heart is always guarded,
But my empathy for others
May cause heart ache to seep through, sometimes
But no-- as I grow,
My skin never gets tough

I'm always fragile and weak,
Once your inside, it's easy to break me
That's why I am always guarded
And always distant,

Because I know that I am always young at heart.
