A beauty! An non-traditional look at a traditional form that SLAMS home! :)

Hey, guys, I didn't take it personally and I don't think anybody else should, either. Could you guys just take it to PM if you need to keep discussing it, though? =/

It's funny how such a tiny poem could spark such a big discussion.

...there's a subtle difference between dictionary pronunciation and poetic...and if you want to know which one is more right, didn't they recently add 'ginormous' to the dictionary...? There goes a lot of that book's credibility, in my opinion... :/

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, Sketso (607) writes:
I think it was only entered in the "new millenium" dictionary though, not the standard versions, as approved by Strunk and White. And all new words come from somewhere, right? Again, nothing stated to detract from the work, just commenting on a formal style approach. I myself tend to abuse words from time to time... ;)

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, SilentStalker (1317) writes:
...but cursed, or blessed, one or two syllables...? it's all in how you use it...we as writers have the option to make some words however many syllables we want it, to make it fit...that's the beauty of being a writer...

...and as for this write, it's head on...in syllables, and in impact...

with the writer's intent, amen. I think some folks are overreacting to my "formal and/or traditional" view. My only irritation was from the reference to "poor English". At least it got a good debate going...

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, evolve (2260) writes:
It was not my intent to "crucify" you. It was my intent to make a point. And what I meant by "poor English" was modernized English. In comparison with Old English, it has become, in some ways, neglectful and lazy (much like many of those who use it). I didn't mean to reflect on your use of the English language. Perhaps, I worded it "poor(ly)". My mistake. As for "formal and/or traditional," I was making a point of exactly the opposite (i.e. the aforementioned "modern" use/interpretation of language). Thanks.

Sorry about that, Cory. I love this piece, and not only the words themselves, but the ones left unspoken, but clearly heard (left up for personal interpretation) which is the beauty I have always found in haiku. Well profound.

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, Sketso (607) writes:
SLAM! I loved the thought process on this, though it's not the typical haiku thought flow (also, on a technical note, everything is TECHNICALLY is a 3-syllable word, disrupting the 5/7/5 reqs for haiku)

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, Lolita (121) writes:
I counted it as a three syllable word. Ev-er-y-thing-is, 1-2-3-4-5. & thank you. =]

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, Sketso (607) writes:
you're welcome! This is the "punch in the face" style, subtly delivered but deadly, that I love from you!

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, evolve (2260) writes:
Only if you speak poor English. :] And this is an emphatic piece, so why not emphasize ev-er-y syllable, not ev'ry?

On Tuesday August 12th, 2008, Sketso (607) writes:
Pardon me for correcting the "poor English" comment, but I speak the "dictionary" English, and per that impressive documentation, it's a 3-syllable, not 4-syllable word. I only commented as would an editor, not to detract from the work, and I think Lolita understands it wasn't a personal attack.
