I stood to contemplate my past,
in the middle of my darkened living room.

I turned away from the television,
whose flashing lights surrounded
the protuberant silhouette of my body
on the wall.

While the baby in my belly
sleeps, oblivious to my ponders,
I rest my hand over her shell
and smile
for her sake.
