Scissor kick...
spread those arms...
no going down
or you'll never come back up.
Fight your own weight
as you settle into rhythm.
Waves lapping at your nose
don't matter.
Left arm...
Right arm...
kick, kick, kick.
It's been too long
and I feel as if I can't kick anymore.
Neck stretching...
back arching...
keep that nose out,
just stay on top.
COUGH!
Can't breathe that...
don't let it in.
Left arm...
Right arm...
kick, kick, kick.
Momentary rest
as I hold my breath...
the world is beautiful
when viewed in sparkling blue.
Maybe just a moment more...
my lungs are bursting
but my legs hurt worse...
COUGH!
Can't breathe that...
don't let it in.
Looking up, though
I see I've gone too far.
Left arm...
Right arm...
kick, kick, kick.
Fighting for all I'm worth...
I'm just sinking.

Circling... I see it.
Arms suspended,
covered in glimmers,
blue eyes wide open
and almost smiling...
tiny bubbles jiggle in excitement
as they escape from within...
Wait...
that's a blank stare,
and the skin is cold.
Is that me?

It looks like that hurt,
but at least when others look
they'll see I died
in a beautiful world
even if I couldn't stay on top of it.

What Narcissa said. Reading this was akin to drowning. Pain, then a vision of infinite blue then pain again. The ending's glorious.

Intense! I felt like I was drowning as you struggle to stay on top. Good Write.

It's got a rhythm to it...It makes me feel like there's the beating of a drum I can't ignore that's forcing me to rise up against something. This stirred things in me.

I like this perspective....it's a ray of hope to someone like me. Love the way you expressed it.
