The whole crowd knew he didn't belong.
Not caring, he came anyway,
to forget...
One by one,
bitter friends were shot down
until he stumbled away, reeling...
Some mocked him when he fell.
Torment turned into rage, he lashed out
not considering their number
or his incapacitation
and all hell broke loose.
In the alley,
everything he deserved was delivered.
Steel toes, wooden whacks,
broken bones from leather slaps,
cold justice fell from the sky.
Beaten, still hurting within
he determined it would hurt too much
to even lift his face out of the puddle.
He even thought he might add to it with his tears
but now frozen eyes would never cry again.
