Just because we're dark poets, it is not to be assumed that everything in our life is dreary. In this, I share a bit of the glory in my life, and only a tiny bit of my shadow shines through.

-----------------------------------

I wander into their room
just to hear them breathe
and for a few brief moments
my soul finds rest.
The looks on their sleeping faces
calm and serene
free from the cares of yesterday
and free from the fears of tomorrow
make me ache from within
with the drive to make sure
they don't face what I've faced.
As I have so many times before
I speak the words I feel...

Day in, day out
I'll do what it takes.
Sleep well my little ones
knowing that no matter what
your father will make a way.
And any demon that dares darken your door
will die in the void that consumes me.
You are my light,
and my reason for being.
No torment or pain
will ever change that,
and I will do all that I can
to harbor you from the storms of life.
You are my lighthouse, my younglings.
Keep shining bright.

there is nothing more sacred than a child's innocence...and nothing more enduring than a parent's love.this was sweetness!

A parents love and need to protect their young is very strong and very beautiful. Indeed a strong ray of light to break the darkness. Very good write.

it's good you echo what I affirm, that 'dark' isn't a closed door to a sullen, steroetypically non-conversationalist apathetic individual, and you get many colours and diversities and great characters here...at DP...not my bag, but nice sentiments
