a tremble beneath my feet.
a flash before my face.
a distant echo.
pitter
[pitter]
patter
[patter]
angry on my shoulders
it falls.
my hair,
soaking,
flies past my eyes
sticking awkwardly
to my cheek.
the earth,
quenched,
slides under my bare feet
as I dance
in the heavy air.
the clouds are still,
lifeless and grey,
but the rain,
charged with emotion
hits the muddy soil
with demand,
hits my face
and washes clean,
purifies me.
and all too soon,
I begin to dry,
and I wait,
and wait,
for another summer rain.
