it's funny how life
is rewarded by life.
the day after you were born
i held you...
careful not to break
your fragile infant body.
your mom smiled at me
while i took hold of you...
never taking my eyes of
your daddy's eyes and lips,
and the nose you got from your mom.
you're perfect.
and i can't wait til you're old enough
to read, and write, and show how creative
i know you'll be.
it's in your blood.
and everyday i visit you,
and hope you'll soon recognize my face
like you will your parents.
and i know you wont remember,
but i'll tell you how i made you laugh,
and how everytime i kissed your cheek
you did that little half smile that you do.
i'll tell you how i stopped your sour face
and held you each time you cryed.
life is funny...
how it gives back.
maybe mom and dad weren't quite expecting
to see your perfect little face so soon,
but now they can't wait to see you walk,
or talk, or grow.
and im so happy
that now,
the three oddly placed,
undeserving people,
have you.
*for Ronald Joseph,
or RJ as I call you...
may you grow happy
and healthy,
and may you never
doubt the love within
your mom's, dad's, and my
heart which we all
have for you.
