i looked at you last night
pondering a time
i looked upon your pale gray wings
and your big sodden eyes
i thought what a creature that you are
such a mystery,
beauty's counterpart
you looked back at me,
with sweet nocturnal eyes
sorrowful in you presence,
confused by your disguise
such a captivating creature
a shroud of black and white
i wanted to touch your wings
just to see how you would fight
your silence full of darkness,
the gray inside your eyes
mesmerized my heart and
put this in my mind

let me know your secrets,
my broken butterfly
tell me of your thoughts now that
i've let you in on mine

do you miss the sun
with your wings cradled in the dark
and see through my mind like it will ever leave a mark
can i touch your pale wings
made of such pain
and can i help you fly as you
take over nights reign
