she sits in the corner
with cotton candy in her hands,
chocolate stains
on her white sunday dress,
and her tears start to subside.

[little girl, don't grow up]

pigtails and lollipops,
barbie dolls and gumdrops,
story books and butterflies,
boogeyman and sleepy eyes.

[little girl, don't grow up]

she sits on daddy's lap
and falls asleep in his arms
and dreams of a wonderland
where all dreams begin

[little girl, don't grow up]

she's a twirling ballerina,
dancing and jumping,
knowing mama would hear her
if she falls of the bed.

[little girl, don't grow up]

but she did, you see.
and she found out that
lollipops and cotton candies
couldn't stop her tears anymore.

the booboos hurt more than ever
and become invisible scars.

and daddy's voice was lost forever
and even if she cried to the heavens,
she'd never hear him again,
never see him again.

"little girl, don't...."

she couldn't even whisper
through her tears.

This hurt, I see myself so much in that. Excellent work, I have to say. Captured the innocence and then it tore it away at the end. Exactly how it works in reality. ~Amber

innocence is so sweet like that cotton candy, but it breaks eventually. Sadly, mine didn't break, I gave it away for my brother. Excellent write, btw. ~Silver~
