Creeping along its path,
the machine searches for its prey.
It looks for deadened wood
to chomp apart and eat away.

It's teeth are made of sharp chrome,
better for the tearing.
Only trees with greenery
will be all that it's sparing.

[But don't you worry, young little guys;
all grows old and eventually dies.]

Each victim's marked with an "x,"
easier for the finding.
Oh! There it goes-
across the forest, whirring, winding.

It calls out to its prey,
in hopes of weak replying
"I will surely find you,
there's no use in denying--"

[-Death is an airborne virus, filtering the air.
Death will swallow all and do so without a care.]

*wrote this inbetween the months of March and June of 2006 for a creative writing project for my honors american literature class. I'm posting it because of everything going on in the Twin Cities (thankfully, it seems everyone I know is safe and okay) and also because my neighbor Archie (who is near and dear to me) passed away from a heart attack a few hours ago.

i sincerely hope that the loved ones (of other darkpoetry members) living in the Twin Cities are alive, safe, and well.

No, I'm not looking for sympathy comments or a compliment stating that I'm a great person for thinking of others, just everything going on right now made me think of this poem and i thought i would share it (especially since I'm in writer's hell right now and can't place words on paper).
