I never had enough time for you.
I never made the effort,
Never felt the guilt quiet like this.
The snow drifts down covering stone,
That reminds me you’re gone.
I can’t read it without a tearing up,
One of the last poignant things I can remember you saying.
“Free at last”
At the time I didn’t understand,
No child would.
But years later when your absence leaves a void in me,
I understand.
And I long to join you in your freedom.
