And you looked so serious in the garden,
gazing at nothing.
I have to tell you,
I've read every book in the world,
I've watched every movie.
It's not like that at all.
Life is not like that at all.

We've learned to cope,
still we fall and stumble.
I always thought that next year's wisdom
would make me perfect.
Life is not like that at all.

I have you here.
I have a sweet river of friends.
I have a creeping thornbush of worries.
Remember when you were eleven,
and couldn't wait to be twelve?
Life is not like that at all.

I see a future,
I see a past.
I breathe in my happy moment.
Life creeps and crawls through me.
A love, a misery, the simple act of breating.
Seriously.
As serious as you looked,
thinking thoughts beyond my reckoning,
in the garden.
