The only real problems with America are we don't concentrate enough on education and we're too concentrated on making everyone feel at home instead of defining a culture for ourselves. Yes, we've been in wars, we've started wars; but every modern major power has. I'd like to see how America is anymore imperialist than anyother country. Hello, Britian built a fucking empire that lasts well into this day (see the commonwealth). No one gives them shit for being imperialist. Yes, we have an economic down turn. Wan; we're all fucking feeling it. It's not like everyone in the government is sitting on their asses doing nothing but whacking off oil companies; but that is all that the average American seems to be doing in between episodes of Deal or No Deal.

If you want someone to blame for the state of America, blame the fucking citizens for not giving two shakes of a fucking stick to stand up for anything that doesn't involve a super sized Big Mac meal or "reality" television. The government can't force people to be active in the republican process -- we're not a democracy, learn your words -- and if no one gives a shit to see beyond red and blue then the goverment doesn't know what people really want. The state of America is our own ruin. Fucking deal with it and do something instead of bitching about it.

hmmmm... well, since the above post does not use the word 'imperialism' nor 'democracy' I'm more than happy to take up this debate on behalf of Demonicus. I will try to learn my words in the process, thanks. First, if you would be so kind as to instruct me on imperialism: To be sure, the USA was part of the imperialistic efforts of Britain during the English Renaissance. But what I would like to know is, what other world leader (no third world countries) has sought to advance its imperialistic growth through military force and invasion since, let's say, the Nuremberg Trials? Korea, Russia... China, maybe Syria, Iran, et al., and now the USA... ? I never voted for Bush, so I did my part (of course, there's no guarantee that these events would not have come to pass if someone else were in office, but it seems less likely with out Cheney and Rumsfeld). And I think part of this republic's process of being a republic... part of what makes it what it is... is people bitching about it.

I believe that congress is taking a vacation... it's not that we're in a recession, capitalism is inconstant and prone to 'corrections', it's the way that the banks are being bailed out but not the people who lost their homes. Should those who created these balloon mortgages be able to sustain their level of luxury even while people who were victims of unfair lending practices are foreclosed upon? And I suppose you would rather people just shut up and take it because that's going to educate us and others? So if we all just close our mouths we'll somehow learn a lesson and then the reality of our state will become miraculously better? Is that consistent with USA's history and constitution? Is that really part of our culture (culture to humans is, by the way, like tone to the spoken word or a valley to a mountain, there is not one without the other)? I agree some people really need educated...
