I used to try to protect myself
By building walls and barricades
I never realized that they
Hurt me more than helped me
I’d never tried to break them down before
Never needed to, never wanted to
I thought they would be tough as brick
Enduring and unwavering
When I finally found courage
I ran through them like clouds
Love was waiting on the other side
I had never let him in
