Its shadow falls on brown and green earth
A reflection of its fair plume
That blooms in spring and molts in fall
Its children gracefully dance towards the ground
Like illusory cascading stars
And as it hugs its white coat in winter
It still feels barren and atramentous
It digs deeper and holds on to what is definite
Snaking through antiquity as it defies demise
It reaches for the cobalt skies with scraggly limbs
Praising the heavens as it bows down to strong winds
But it’s regal as it stands above the height of the world
Breathing in as we breathe out in perfect syncopation
A rhythm you can feel in your bones

sweet. the personification is very well done. I especially like the description of the leaves falling like stars.

A worthy ode to the unsung trees. I thought the ground hummed when I read the last two lines.
