The sun is caged
In a balloon in the sky
Floating into the atmosphere
Threatening to disappear
The stars all cheer
They think it’s a game
The sun was always
Brighter than them
The lonely moon cries
And I do, too
Her love is gone
I’m left in the dark
This looming heart shaped balloon
Casts its shadow on the mourning earth
It thinks it is intimidating
Imitating the morning
If you can lasso the moon
You can string a balloon
And that is what I did
The sun went down inside her
Like a lurching lunch
His flames tickled her entrails
She giggled when she saw me
I could only glare
I tied her to an oak tree
She tried to fly away
With a needle in hand
I walked as if on needles
It twinkled in the dim light
She screamed a deafening scream
The blue birds fell from the sky
And the cotton clouds shivered
I tugged her to me
Hugging her to me
I freed the sun
But it killed me
Dead on the ground
Sunk in the earth
It had gladly
Swallowed me whole
My soul is the star
Closest to the sun
But my body is
Empty and alone
Blank eyes study
Shreds of balloons
They look like flesh
And they’re bleeding
And so it turns out
I murdered myself
By stabbing my heart
To free my true love
