Remember when blue skies were stunning
And your eyes were always pink and brown
And I know you never used to frown

Now our lives are full of broken hearts
The grass is green on neither side
Flowers reek of formaldehyde

Nowadays we keep our minds half closed
We’d like to rewind like on T.V.
This act fools no one, not you or me

It’s like playing with dolls in the midst of a plague
Our battles never mattered compared to our wars
Pretending we were happy was our greatest chore

We never meant to make each other bleed
We tried to eat knives and lies like candy
And drink our sins as if they were brandy

We’re just naughty kids that need a time-out
Don’t we all wish we could have one of those
I hate to think that this is what we chose

The tides are strong and the ocean is great
We’re still convinced that we did nothing wrong
We’re lost as a lark that’s missing its song
