Murmurs on the listening wind
Lies and secrets, horrid sin
This is a battle it can’t win
Walls that cage it, they aren’t thin

Animal under scrutiny
Tame the beast, despite its pleas
It speaks . . Quiet! Ugly words
Its reasoning is so absurd

It cries and screams and moans
Beaten and worn to the bone
Its hoarse voice, a mere drone
Prays for mercy and freedom

Hideously marred features
Body swarmed by minim creatures
A song, lament, of monsters found
The mysteries to which it’s bound

It dies inside; poor lonely thing
Wishing for eternal spring
More than wishes, its purpose to live
Hope and dream, in thoughts it drifts

A sea forever churning
Cogs and wheels are turning
A heart forever yearning
Yet they’re never learning

Kill the wretched thing
It has lost its will to live
Lost its hope and given up
Fragile as a buttercup

"It dies inside; poor lonely thing" the imagery in this is magnificent, and the rhyme scheme...*sighs* Excellent write! Love it. ~*Beth*~
