Can you hear their cries for help?
Are you deafened by greed?
You kick their dreams into the rubble of triviality
Their goals to you are worthless

These are not puppets you sovereign
But people of flesh and bone, just like you
You dare scoff at my truths?
What a foolish leader

There are rebels at the gates of town
They annihilate your forces
They are not mules but you have treated them so
And now their so called stubborn ways
Have come back to kick you in the face

Launch you from your golden throne
You do not deserve it
See what you have done?
Brought chaos into the lives of innocence

Work them like dogs
But no, even hounds have better treatment
They starve and they thirst
They die from sickness

See? They are human
But why have you forced them to prove it?
You bring war to our city
We yearn for peace

Refuse to listen
Turn the other cheek
But their ghosts will haunt you
In your dreams and in your wake

Hear their eerie voices
Calling out your name
Teasing you with threats
Their transparent hands could never fulfill

And you care not for their children
Orphaned in the street
Not a crumb for them to nibble
Not a drop for them to drink

You feast and feast
Drink yourself dumb
Sleep on a bed of feathers
And they on a mound of hay

And when they are gone
Your lands will be barren
Worthless as you thought their lives
You will be pillaged in your weakness

But will there be anything to take?
That might be your only fortune
Lend us what little kindness lurks within your heart
However much might be there

Shall you have no mercy?
March us to our doom?
It is you who will lose in the end
My shallow king
