I shudder to think
In the blink of an eye
Our love had gone missing
A lost butterfly
When heavens sigh
And angels groan
I’d hate to think I am alone
Lost in the rain
The dew drops hit my wings like lightning
Burning electric blue holes
Graceful body spiraling downward
To meet with the algid earth
The eclipse of the sun
Shadows my heart
Where darkness reigns
On a warm summer day
And what will happen to the lives
Of bees and birds and skeletons
Trapped within a box of lies
The key has flown away
It glistens in the moonlight
To tease them of freedom
The storm has struck it down
And the animals all cheer
Just out of reach
My fingers stretch
Through bars of lust and love
To grab the key to set me free
My wishes urge me on
Handfuls of dirt and dust
Thrown at my face
Blinding me, burning me
Burning holes in fragile wings
Of the butterfly that’s love is lost
In this roaring storm of lust
Struck down to the ground
It struggles for breath
Frail body quivers
In the cold wet rain
Of that summer’s day
The eclipse of the sun
Casts its shadow like death
On the motionless thing
Struck down in the tempest of lust
