fading away like the thin trail
of smoke escaping the cherry of a cigarette
i secede to the inevitable demise
of the fairy tale sunset
and instead watch the moon rise
flirting silent over pyres of unalterable death
as imagination gives way to nitemaric devotions
and dreams become hauntings
with every breathe
exhaling
the seductions
of yet another and another...

...cigarette.

pharmaceutical cocktails become motivation
traces of poison left still lingering on my lips
plunging carrion pupils deeper
all while falling farther from...

happily...

...ever...

...after

...and...
blood covers paper poetic notations
while demons dance in the lingering smoke
of the last cigarette lit
and the one leap farther
from

.innocence.
