Tonight,
Under the not so special moonlight.

I saw memories
Being boxed away
By those with anonymous names.

A final realization
That our time together is coming to an end.

~*~
I knew one day you would leave
But no clue of what it would do to me.
~*~

Tonight,
Under the not so special moonlight.

I embraced you
And held you tighter than
Atlas holds the world.

Your arms around my neck
(Face resting on my chest)

My arms around your waist
(Hands in the small of your back)

I buried my head in your shoulder
And cried out whatever was left
Of my already broken soul.

~*~
I swear
If there is anything left of me when you’re gone
I will gladly offer it to you.
~*~

Tonight,
Under the not so special moonlight.

I whispered words
I know you did not hear.

“You could be all I’ve ever needed,
You are all I’ve ever wanted,
And you make everything in my life
That much more important.”

~*~
Though I gasp for words
And though you have more than taken my breath away…
You make breathing that much easier.
~*~

Tonight,
Under the not so special moonlight.

I truly wonder
If you know how much I love you.

And I know
If we are meant to be
Our hearts will find each other again.

But I never perfected the art of patience.
That virtue,
I lack.

This was amazing. Structured perfectly, and yeah. The line about Atlas, well that was pure unadulterated genius. I loved this!

"And though you have more than taken my breath away... you make breathing that much easier." Perfectly beautiful. This poem (especially that quoted line) will be stuck in my head for some time.

seems to dance from the post-Pablo Neruda love poem most haunted slant...the repetition of a not so special moonlight, seems to add to the emptiness of things; perhaps the sadness of the narrator's voice...

From the opening lines about memories being boxed away, I was completely drawn in. I can relate to this piece more than anyone could ever know. Your words have reached me and grabbed ahold.
