I remember...

When you left
How you looked at me
Tears falling from your eyes
Staining the hardwood floor

Words falling from your lips
"I Love You
Like I've never loved before
And I'll never fall in love again"

How long has it been?
I miss you
And my heart
Is falling again

I remember....

Hiding in my room where
I had entombed myself
Waiting for redemption
Waiting for you

My head on the broken pillow
Still leaking feathers
From that time
We had the fight

I remember....

Becoming aware of shadows
Moving across the wall
Like some sort of ghost
Beckoning me to the window

I remember....

Looking out over
The stark white expanse
And seeing you
A pastel princess in a frozen wasteland

You were turning so gracefully
Like the ballerina on the music box
In your room
Spinning while the box

Plinked out a tune
Steadily fading
Familiar but out of reach
And off key

And your dress was rippling
Around you like when you were a young girl
Spinning a daisy between
Expectant fingers

He loves me... He loves me not
And the petals are falling, falling
Like the white that's settling
Around you as you pirouette

And it's falling

And I remember

How we laid laughing and touching
With the feathers floating
Falling down around us
Long after the pillow broke

And I remember

How you twirled with your
Head thrown back in abandon
And your arms outstretched
Stopping occasionally

Between some angels
Without faces or names
And some ten foot writing
White on white

And I can't quite make it out
Through the frost and the fog
From my breath that clings to the window
The way you used to cling to me

And you try to catch elusive dreams
On the tip of your tongue
The very same you used
To probe the inside of my mouth

Like you were searching
For my soul
And I grabbed my coat and ran
Nearly falling down the stairs

Only to make it outside
In time to see you succeed
Catching a cluster of tiny flakes
That melt leaving a cold and somehow bitter taste

And I remember...

How you told me
You'd taken another lover
And I reminded you
What you said when you left

And I remember

When you said,
"Lovers are like snowflakes
Each one is different,
I will love again...

But I will never again love
The way that I have loved you"
And you left again
And it's still falling

And I look down on
Expressionless angels
Guarding me
Guarding what you'd written

Ten foot letters....
White on white

I Love
U

Written by twirling
Spinning feet
Etched into the cold
And onto my breaking heart

And the tears freeze
As they fall hard and unforgiving
And the snow blinds the angels
And erases every trace...

Of what you wrote.

So beautifully written, yet utterly crushing. I absolutely love this. And it seemed to go perfectly with the song I'm currently listening to (Everything - Lifehouse)...
