millions of stars glitter in the northern sky
overshadowing my hearts sorrows
bright eyed bushy tailed squirrels frolic in the branches above my head
oblivious of the bloody tears I shed
hiding beneath the boughs of the redwood tree
my head cradled in my hands
the world around me a cycle of death and decay
I reflect on my short life of anger and grief
knowing that death is near
before I dreamed of ending it all
oh the ways I dreamed
the knife, the gun, those magical pills
methods that would bring pain yet relief
now my body betrays me
having found the will to live and try
so slowly I watch my body die
legions of death march across my eyes
the doctors shake their heads and sigh
my parents hold one another and cry
hiding beneath the boughs of the redwood tree
my head cradled in my hands
I lay down to die
