upon your knee I sit safe as can be
you would give me the moon and stars
in my eyes you wouldn't need to reach very far
warm at night tucked into the shadows
the rain pattering gently against my window
trying so hard to sleep
all the faaster you and morning come
lonely nights me and mom wait for you
never did I think you were hiding lies
too young to see the sadness in her eyes
the marks on your arms
my childish joy obliterating any signs of unfaithfulness
now I know
know that even though you loved us the only way you knew how
your heart lay in a bag of demons
your soul owned by the devil not yourself
once all I wanted was to follow in your footsteps
now my inner child cries for the papa I thought you once were
