When the night comes
I lay my head upon the ground and weep
I cannot dream, I cannot sleep
The staircase of my emotions steep
Leading down to madness.
When the night comes
My heart breaks open and begins to bleed
I cannot move, I cannot heed
The angels who would lovingly lead
Me back to love's embrace.
When the night comes
The sky is black as ink and cold
The stars shine savage and so bold
They mock my pain,
They laugh, they scold
They know my soul has been sold
To the darkness.
When the dawn comes
They will find
An outline where I once did lie
And beneath that blue and velvet sky
They will mourn me.
