talk of future and the roles we play
the characters, climax, and ending
a plot changed by every paradox we encounter
will you mark my words?
and smile at the thought of back porches and palm trees?

how come whenever I ask you to define love,
you pull out your dictionary?
and when you hear till death do us part,
you start reading the obituaries..
