Fawn trembled against Lillith, body quaking only enough for her silent weeping to be noticeable. The sight of her like this inflicted more pain upon Lilith than any physical wound ever could.

"No matter what I say, I can't make you any less afraid. Can I?"

"No. It runs in my veins."

     "What does?"

     "Being afraid."

"I would give you my wings to sleep in if I thought that they might help you sleep," she murmerd against Fawn's soft throat.

"But I know better," she continued. "You will never sleep again. You are too broken to ever achieve that. You will spend countless nights crying into your pillow because of memories that refuse to stay buried. You will silently sob beneath dark, merciless skies because of past lovers who refuse to be ignored. You will spend night after night watching the clock record the passage of time. Each minute will drag on for what will seem like an eternity. You will curse all things that remind you of time. You will consider burning the calenders, breaking the seemingly defenseless hourglasses, unplugging the alarm clocks, and ripping the hands off of the the clocks that decorate your walls, but you will not do these things. What will remain of your humanity will hold you back. You will bottle it all within, but your eyes will give away your deception. You cannot hide behind the mask for very long."
