I jumped into the pool,
Splashed with a smile.

The water surrounded me.
Filled my lungs, as I
Sunk to the bottom of the
concrete prison.

Chlorine burned my eyes.
Trying to call out for help
as I chocked on the water.
Kicking and flailing to survive,
accomplished nothing.

Trapped in the water’s grip,
Doomed to stay locked in the
tomb of water.

Arms from above wrapped me,
pulled me toward the light.
Air forced into my lungs,
As my eyes opened.

She pulled me from eternity.
Gave me life that should have ended.
Everyone happy to see me
take those breaths.

I was still innocent when death
could have taken me.
