THERE’S A GUY I KNOW
WELL, HE’S MORE A MAN
THAN A GUY
HE’S A SWEETHEART REALLY
I’M GLAD THAT I MET HIM
HE HELPED ME SEE
THAT JUST BECAUSE
I THINK MY WRITINGS
ARE STUPID TO ME
DOESN’T MEAN THEY ARE
TO SOMEONE ELSE
HE’S BEEN AN INSPIRATION
A HERO IN MY EYES
I LOVE HIM
HE’S A FRIEND
A FELLOW WRITER
HE’S HELPED ME
THROUGH SOME TROUBLING TIMES
I WOULDN’T TRADE HIM FOR THE WORLD

YOU SEE
NO ONE
HAS REALLY CARED ABOUT ME
AS MUCH AS HE DOES
THERE’S JOSEPH
THE WRITER
I LOVE HIM
IT’S WRITTEN FOR
JOSEPH
I PRAY EVERYDAY
THAT I’LL NOT SCREW UP

THAT OUR FRIENDSHIP
WILL REAMIN AS STRONG
AS IT IS NOW
HE’S A HERO
IN DISGUISE
AND A SWEETHEART
TO BOOT
I GIVE HIM
PART OF MY HEART
AND HOPE THAT
HE KEEPS IT FOREVER WITH HIM
I’VE KEPT MY HEART PROTECTED
DIDN’T WANT TO LET ANYONE IN
I’VE LET HIM IN
I’VE WILLINGLY
OPENED A PART OF ME
THAT, AT ONE POINT,
WAS COLD AS ICE
AND BLACK

IF YOU ARE READING THIS
THEN YOU MUST KNOW
THAT I’VE NEVER HAD A HERO
I’VE NEVER LOOKED UP TO ANYONE
WHEN IT CAME TO HAVING TO CHOOSE
A CHILDHOOD HERO
I NEVER HAD ONE
I NEVER HAD A HERO UNTIL
SEPTEMBER 6, 2006
MY HERO IS
AND WILL ALWAYS BE,
JOSEPH

On April 9, 2008 a close friend of mine passed away, he was many things to me, a friend, an rp buddy, a fellow writer, and so much more. I dedication this poem to him and his family. He was loving man, with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a neuromuscular disease that, essentially, survives by eating the cells in your body that carry the signal from your brain to your muscles. He wasn't thought to live past the age 2 and yet, almost 23 laters, he finally passed. He was a sweetheart and had it not been for him, I wouldn't have found my way back to poetry.

To Joseph, I will never forget you. I will embrace each day with a smile like you always did. I will look to each day, and think of what a lucky person i was to get to know. I will never be able to say good-bye but in my heart, I know it's not the end.
