Hidden away
To far from view
The dew drips
Taken anew
Day has dawned
See the fawn
The white spots
Leaping legs
Fear inside
As the hunter plagues
Skittish soul
As the gun does sound
Shattered echoes all around
Running in fear
Of a world un-knew
The grass rustles
With the whispering wind
The tree bends
And lighting strikes
With the sound
Of the running fawn
With every foot
The fawn’s heart grows louder
Like the beating of a drum
Nothing can save him now
The bullet draws nears
Onlookers would have shed tears
The female deer
Leaping in fear
Of her own baby fawn
She saw the bullet
And knew what to do
Darting out in front
To her this battle is won
The son escapes
With a loving vow
She laid down her life
As a sacrifice to her son
For the love that she has
Is an ever existing one.

I liked the vision this piece weaved for me. Though I must admit that being in one long stanza I had to move through this slowly, but it was still quite effective.
