A fire burning through the trees,
A light to guide me on;
My road beset with barriers
That I must overcome.
I stand before the first of them,
Almost too big to see;
Yet soon I come to realize
I’m peering straight at “me”.
How do I move beyond myself,
And see the world without?
I look behind at that dark road
Of guilt and fear and doubt.
I can’t return to that morass,
Nor seek another path;
I must confront the worst of me
And unknown aftermath.
My love gives strength to guide me,
And time is on my side.
For through this forest and this night
My beacon is my bride.
