On a dark and lonely road, as I slowly lost my way
In a night of bitter cold, thinking it’s my final day
Watching the stars wheel above, wetted cheeks a burning flame
Hope abandoned, dying dove, my life’s failures only blame
I’m alive; my heart is fast, a falling star, a spark of mind
Accept the record of the past; allow the past to fall behind
From the ashes rises chance; hope of future yet unknown
No certain knowledge in advance of whether wisdom has grown.

This is a true story. It happened last night, February 18, 2006. This may very well have been the last day of my life, until a falling star, in and of itself, changed the path of my thoughts. - Michael
