"if our love were a novel it would surely be a paperback horror."

like a book written in reverse,
our love failed before it began.
a view of happiness so perverse,
we embraced the music but refused to dance.
we were fated to fail,
yet granted chance after chance.
maybe it wasnt our love so frail,
could it have been simply us?

a sensual bond like no other,
yet it would forever seem
your true love belonged to another.
you spoke the words,
and you played the part,
you promised forever
and i surrendered my heart.
but the ties that bound were quickly severed.

we pushed a love that was never true,
we forced fate to swing our way,
i gave it all away for you,
yet you continued your game.
like a puppet caught on your strings,
i sacrificed my hopes and my dreams
so i could give you everything.
i gave you my heart, and you ripped it at the seams.

i look back now and see it all,
i see now that i was previously blind,
i was looking into the trees,
and saw only what i wanted to be mine.
a forest of dreams.
i see now dreams are just that.
an compilation of false realities,
a hope of a chance i never had.

like a book written in reverse,
love's final chapter came first.

i was just too blind to see,
blinded by your promised dreams.

"i was just too blind to see, blinded by your promised dreams."--this hit home. so hard. sometimes we must blind ourselves so we can stay happy. but happiness is just a dream, so when will it become reality? tremendously eye-opening write.
