Did you ever
for
one
second
believe I'd give up on you?
that when I said I'd fight your demons
for you or alongside you;
my words were as fickle as dust,
transient as the breathing space we allow?
I'd pull this rusty sword from
'neath this rugged heart with a whisper.
those words I was always yearning to say;
and even though we're miles apart,
I kiss you goodnight as you lay your head down
to minds-eye epitaph rest.
Did you ever
doubt
for a breath
of a
moment
I'd back down?
Who else to stand shoulders strained
to protect you as your moments thundered
down around you?
Who else to pick up every sliver of your soul
and piece it back together?
even though
you've had other men in your life,
some that I think meant more than me.
even though I chase heartaches and memories;
beggars gold and false pretense,
swallow-song and misery,
this creeping frost hasn't killed me yet.
So as you twist and turn upon a razors edge,
who else but to catch you?
As you dream a thousand torments,
who else but to bring you to reality?
I've said it before without as much desperation
as you should read into my words now.
I love you.
More than this, more than material emotional dreampatterns...
Beyond life, beyond all these Autumnal spirals and bare-skin-raptures.
Don't let yourself fade away.
