You got along fine without me in your life
For all those many days and countless nights,
You tell me.

Seemingly open, I filled with relief,
To at least read what I have to say,
Agreeing to hear the thoughts I send.

Initially you would scrawl out an answer
To what you received.
I don’t believe, such bliss and joy,
Before, I had ever seen.

Acknowledging that I am your Mother,
I brought you forth to be
The gorgeous, talented, sensitive man you seem to be.

I was not away from you by choice,
You see.
That does not matter now, you say,
It has simply been that way.
I understand that life for you is only beginning,
You pull away a bit,
There is no time for me.
You are not ready to build a relationship,
You imagine, though, one day.
That situation we will see.

I try to tell you of memories of when I was there, with you,
When I bore you, loved you, nurtured you,
With a fierceness I did not know was in me.
I am only telling tales of strangers,
For the most part, they be.
Why do you not want to hear more of your history???
I want to scream at you,
Until with clarity you believe
These tales are your past, as well,
Please, my words, derived from wisdom,I have conceived.

I bring forth such a restraint that was foreign to me,
I do not scream,
Even as pissed off as you have made me.
Your trample on feelings so painful, so raw,
At least, with comfort, I know that you do not do this to be mean,
This is what you truly believe.

If for no other reason,
I must make your eyes open, your mind, alert and open to see
Put off that which should be taken care of now,
Before you realize, the time has come and gone
It has become too late
And I am no longer here,
That is when you will decide the time is right to know me.
Remember these words,
Heed them respectfully, please,
Dear Son of mine,
I am the woman who gave you life
I deserve this so,
I have the utmost right to these small things I ask for you to give me.
I earned the right to know you,
I am your Mother
You are my son.
