The Winter Dance (Watch Her Dance The Night Away)
Singing songs from a music age thats almost gone
(Gone, gone where? Going into the past, that's where)
remembering times that have since long ago been dead,
come for the winter dance
and dance, dance the night away
it is all fun here.
Dancing at the Surf
dancing your time away on
these hardwood floors
and open bars
remembering better times
let's watch winter dance herself away.
Come, lets dance ourselves to death
at the Surf tonight
cold winter nights
listening to Rock and Roll
but not off a tape, no
and it's not the real band
(so, what is it?)
just a few undiscovered musicians
(and a few wannabe song writers)
gathered together to play
(give tribute)
to bands most of todays youth
has never ever heard of.
The aging couples come to play
dance the night away
here at The Surf, just look around
look around the crowd
you might find a teen or two
but hey they dont mind
they are just here for a good time
(lost, stuck in the past and not cool
but hey, who gives a crap?! Not them!)
______________________________________________________
And now you're at the other part
of the stage, tuning your guitar
and breathing in and out
(hell you even dyed your hair for the occasion
and decided to wear something along the lines
that your character would wear. )
Nervous, so nervous
and your are trying to concentrate on
the guitar riffs you have to play
(think damn you THINK!)
you've never played in front of
so damned many people before
and it scares you to the point
that you almost fall off the stage
(but DAMN! It's such a small stage for such a big place!)
No room for jumping around
during your last practice session
and the people are flowing in.
The lights turn on and the show
begins for realy (no fuckups this time!
Fuckups equal NO pay)
So nervous now but still you play,
you play and you smile
and the people get wild
people are dancing
and soon it's an intermission.
Jotting down your thoughts on a
ten minute intermission
and it's hardly enough time
and soon your retuning another guitar
and switching parts
electric guitar to bass guitar.
Got to keep the beat and
watch them dance
and you remember when you were down
there dancing yourself,
you look around the room and see a few more teens
then last year.
(guitar riffs, breathing, concentrating,
music)
Jumble my thoughts together and lets see
what happens.
Watching them dance at the Surf
on a cold winter night
dancing, dancing until its almost light,
dancing and playing and singing away.
(dance, dance, dance
and sing, sing, sing
dancing, and signing away.)
Just remember,
don't fall off the stage.
(The Surf Ballroom has a few dances every year called The Winter Dances. It is a very cool place to be. Alot of people that are undiscovered musicians play their gigs there. Mostly, The Surf Ballroom is a rock and roll tribute place where people that like the music pay their respects for bands, and artists that created the Rock and Roll era. The Surf was created a few years after the unfortunate plane crash that happened five miles outside of Clear Lake, Iowa. The people on the plane were Buddy Holly, Valens (I seriously do not know his first name, which is very sad), and The Big Bopper. I was going through some old notebooks today and found a partial poem I started writing a few years ago when I was one of the people that danced there. I finished the poem in a different point of veiw as one of the musicians, because I now play there sometimes.)
