Philosophy

I sit here and think
About God and creation
And achieve nothing.

Regret

A man came to me
But I pushed him far away
And now he is gone.

Futility

I watch the sun rise
Above a despondent world
And ask myself 'why?'.

Hope

An innocent child
As yet unaware of hate
Strides forth towards love.

Fulfilment

A river that flows
To meet the brine tainted sea
And there shed its pain.

Death

A blackened shadow
Stretching unseen from my feet
Stains my life with dread.

Loss

A mound of fresh earth
Covers what was once my life
But is now my death.

Harmony

A deep-seated love
That encircles all around
And binds with weak bonds.

Life

A flitter of thought
That pursues a futile course
And ends on a whim.

Boyhood

A freedom of will
Expressed through an unmarred love
For the world at large.

Love

A trust beyond thought
And a quickness to forgive
When that trust is dashed.

Peace

A balance of all
That centers around respect
And results in love.

Courage

A righteous knight's charge;
A guiltless man's sacrifice;
A diseased child's smile.

Despair

A torment of soul
Bred not by others' actions,
But by our own minds.

Innocence

A boy's furtive glance;
A beautiful maiden's blush;
A holding of hands.

Hate

A boiling of thought
That burns the substance of life
And consumes all joy.

Note: New haikus will be added as they are written (i.e. very rarely). So, if you have nothing better to do, check back here once in a while (i.e. very rarely) and you might be in luck (if you can call it that) :)

in my studies; etc. Suffice it to say that I’ve been low on inspiration and time, meaning my diminished literary energy has been going into reading, not writing. Having said all this, know that I love dp and will always be a proud member.

Thank you. It's always good to know that people connect with your art... I think that's a very good idea. If anyone has any abstract nouns they wish me to do, suggest away ;)

I think Death is interesting, as far as capturing the notion of a shadow, giving evidence of something unseen, which you dread. Harmony is also fantastic!

I love your line " And binds with weak bonds " - excellent! Usually people speak of harmony in squishy terms like that is the default state of being. I love your sentiment! Ciao, T/S

I agree on Futility - wonderful piece! I also love Fulfillment - the notion of meeting the larger body of water and there shedding its pain is very interesting, particularly given the title. Very nice! I look forward to reading more of these! Ciao, T/

Philosophy - I have often felt the same way when reading the self-serving meanderings of certain of philosophy's standards. The utility of a pursuit is often best judged by the voracity, not merely the time, with which it is pursued.
