Love of my eyes,
Painter of my smile,
And keeper of my soul,
I wanted you to stay.
Say the distance breaks you this time.
Your will was walking
I noticed
Your broken shoelaces were tripping you onto the plane.
I never understood why you fell for me
But I understand why you're falling away.
Promise you wont break my heart with a jagged edge.
Heat a knife and cut me beautifully.
(As if your hands could construct anything less than perfect)
I will hit the rocks with perfect precision.
And I will mend without a fracture.
I will look back
Knowing you were the best heart
I could have ever run my love through.
Only you could have sewn my soul
With golden love strings
And not leave a single scar.
(The only man I know who can sew
And is a sharp-shooting sniper.)
It hurts that we never had a fighting chance.
Hell's flames always licked at our ankles.
Hell could barely reach us
While heaven never wanted to dip down so low
As to brush our hair with harp(heart)string combs.
We've been tainted.
And we've loved every second.
It hurts that we never had a fighting chance.
You and me.
Us.
We.
Doomed.
Headed down the road to failure from the start.
You shot down all odds
And I trailed behind you:
Your southern princess.
No matter how many times I sang to the stars
They would never grant my wish.
The moon was too stubborn
And wanted you to its self.
(How could I blame it?)
I could rub my fingers over the tiny diamond
Harboring my left hand
A million times.
But genies don't come out of diamonds
Only sparkling eyes do.
(It was fate that we never ran away
To say 'I do.'
Only promised to in the future.)
I could paint grass under your feet
And write you a boxload of words
That you don't have the patience to understand.
...You still wouldn't be able to touch me like you did.
So we'll call it quits
And turn our future over to the government.
You go fight.
I'll go steer those big ships.
Just know
I wanted you to stay.
I wanted to love you.
I love you still.
I've loved you all along.
And I'll love you always.
Please remember how close to perfection we came.
Paint someone else's sky
But reserve one tiny star for me.
I'll find someone else to paint me lovely.
Just know
Goodbye is the finale.
Every fireworks show ends.
All sparklers burn out.
The flag is all that remains.
We conquered what we could
And fell.
Just know
I love you still.
Just know
I've loved you all along.
Just know
Goodbye is final.
Goodbye,
From my heart to your's.
