I sit here huddled alone,
Except for the child I hold.
I whisper to him,
Everything will be ok.
As the child cries...
I try to comfort his tears,
But nothing seems to work.
I hug him tightly,
I hope things will be ok.
As the child cries...
His eyes don't twinkle anymore.
His voice has grown cold and weak.
Laughter is barely a memory.
I cry since I can't help him.
As the child cries...
Abused, kicked around, and abandoned.
Who will stand for this child?
Laughed at, led on, and mishandled.
Who will end all of the pain?
As the child cries...
I rock back and forth,
With the scar covered child in my arms.
I sing soothing songs,
Just hopeful thoughts put to music.
As the child cries...
I weep for this child,
Once he falls asleep.
He doesn't need more tears,
Especially if they aren't his.
As the child cries...
I see you staring.
Just one of the many.
All those unknowingly guilty,
That you ruined this child.
As the child cries...
I know that all you see,
Is me huddled in a corner.
Alone,
Only myself in my arms.
As the child cries...
You can't see the boy.
He is my heart.
Even without sight though,
You saw it and ripped it apart.
As the child cries...
Too many tears has my soul known.
Far more than stars in the sky.
But you don't care.
You just pass by my self comforting existence.
As the child cries...
How do you tell your heart,
To carry on?
How can it believe you,
When you're not in control?
As the child cries...
My soul,
This crying child.
These cracks,
Line my heart for every tear.
As the child cries...
My plea,
Save this little one.
My dreams,
Have all seemed like lies.
As the child cries...
Leave me alone,
I need to tend to the child.
I need to save him,
I have to save me.
Still...
the child...
cries
