We stood in the middle of my yard
The same spot I've spent so much time in
Over the years
You were just as I remembered..
My gaze never leaving the beauty that is you
and yours never leaving the ground..
In a voice that wasn't yours you told me
The boy I am was responsible for the man you became;
The wind picked up
And everything came rushing back...
You said it was your faith that got you through
And mine that destroyed me
And as you walked away you said
If you didn't leave now you would never be rid of me
I awoke with a wet streak between my eyes
From one corner to the other,
Then down,
To my hungry pillow.
There's some meaning in there somewhere
I think..
Or maybe it's just a last-ditch effort of a troubled mind
Trying to put to rest a great chapter in my life that ended badly..
It's beginning to fade now, like most dreams do,
But this I want to remember...
If only tears left blisters
so we knew they ever fell.
