(DISCLAIMER: This is an angry response to the writing and beliefs of a southern Christian writer, Flannery O'Connor - NOT how I perceive all Christians to be!)
I’m a good little Christian
with strong Christian faith
I talk a lot about Jesus
and so I will be saved.
I baptized a baby
before I drowned him in the lake,
but I said a few Hail Marys
(and rely upon God’s grace)
so I know my soul is safe.
I’m a good country Christian
so I have walked away
from the city and its sinners
for whose rotten souls I pray.
God doesn’t care if I rape or steal
since good deeds have nothing to do with faith.
But anyone who sleeps through Church
will burn in Hell for their mistake.
Jesus has rivers of blood
with which to cleanse my soul.
And since he died to save me,
I’m sure he won’t mind to bleed a little more.
