I smoked my first and last
cool cigarette of the night.
I took deep breaths of smoke
and short breaths of air,
as dizzy, I tapped ash
into the tin lid of a jewelry box.

I thought about your new girlfriend
and her pretty dark hair.
I wonder if you stare into her eyes
the same way you've stared at mine.
I wonder if you're breathing perfume
while I sleep to the scent
of my new addiction.
