Beutiful tree,
symbol of freedom.
Aguirre touched you when
they named him lehendakari.
You still stand!
Freedom, Basque Freedom
still survives!
Gora Euskadi askatuta!
Gora Euskadi!
Gora empty victory!
How many innocents died in your place?
Franco won his war,
and the Basques fought back.
They fought for us
against Franco's allies
in Italy
and Germany.
The hope burned that one day
in some bright future
Euskadi would be free again.
A new enemy came forth
and Franco spoke out
Gernika was betrayed,
so they turned their backs on Aguirre.
A new cry rang out:
Euskadi ta askatasuna.
The ghosts of Gernika howled out,
lashed out at el caudillo,
never touching their enemy
but making hundreds of others.
Hungry, angry ghosts.
They lashed out again and again, even after their enemy fell.
Their cry is growing softer,
their fire is dying down.
The bright future the
dead of Gernika hoped for
has taken a different form.
Nationalism has been shown to be a
terrible
bloody
night.
But the day of unity is dawning.

This was good... there is a powerful passion at the heart of this.

This one is fabulous. The basque tongue thrown in just perfects it.
