There was a taste of anger on his lips as we kissed,
Usually left on the bedside table unmissed,
But it visits every now and then, more often now, than then.

There was a shade of pain in his eyes that only I could survive,
Usually sleeping and life deprived,
But it visits every now and then, more often now, than then.

There was a hope in my heart,
Usually silenced by memories,
But appearing every now and then, more often then, than now.

And as we held hands and walked through the night,
There was a look of new beginnings in our stride,
And the smile each of us would provide.

.....then my roomie shook me awake......
